Carl Nielsen & Anne Marie Carl-Nielsens Honorary Award
tor 12. oktober 2023 kl 19.30
Five Danish artists who have left a strong personal mark on Danish musical life are honored with the Carl Nielsen and Anne Marie Carl-Nielsen's Honorary Award in DR Koncerthuset. The prize winners have jointly put together an exciting programme which takes us out into the cosmos and into human passion – with both vocal, chamber and orchestral music.
Carl Nielsen and Anne Marie Carl-Nielsen's Foundation has supported Danish musical life for many years, and this evening a total of five honorary awards of DKK 750,000 each are awarded to artists who have all left their strong personal mark on the Danish music scene.
The evening's program takes us out into the cosmos and into human passion, to Nielsen's celebration of the primal human in his 3rd Symphony and Saint-Saëns' charming Horn Concerto, with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra's principal horn player Lasse Mauritzen as soloist.
The evening begins with the premiere of a new work by Kh Marie, which can be experienced in the foyer upon arrival.
In the concert hall, the programme opens with Theatre of Voices, award-winning conductor Paul Hillier and Ensemble Stralo in excerpts from Peter Navarro-Alonso's masterpiece, I Flammende Brøde (2022), where the music is a prism of Gesualdo's twisted mind - with both great drama, beauty and hope.
Together with ACME String Quartet, Hillier and Theatre of Voices also present Drone Mass (2015) by the Icelandic Oscar-nominated film composer Jóhann Jóhannsson (Theory of Everything, Arrival, Sicario), who died far too young in 2018. He draws on both his Nordic heritage, Egyptian mysticism and Arvo Pärt's minimalism.
